San'in Kaigan Geopark 
A “geopark” is a natural park that is considered particularly important for scientific reasons or that includes many beautiful geological heritage destinations. In December of 2008, a large area along the Sea of Japan coastline was designated as a Japan Geopark by the Japanese Geoparks Committee.
A “geopark” is a natural park that is considered particularly important for scientific reasons or that includes many beautiful geological heritage destinations. With support from UNESCO, many regions in Europe and China, among other places, are actively promoting this system.
At the center of San’in Kaigan Geopark is San’in Kaigan National Park, with numerous and diverse geological and topological formations created since the formation of the Sea of Japan to the present found there. This area is a place to collectively experience and learn about the culture and history of this natural zone. Within the geopark, you can learn about a variety of culture and history revolving around nature. San’in Kaigan Geopark makes use of its natural blessings to promote preservation of natural heritage and vitalize the region through geotourism. In December of 2008, the area was designated as a Japan Geopark by the Japanese Geoparks Committee.
